Shops across the Gold Souk sell gold jewellery in a range of karats, plus silver, diamonds and gold bars. 7 Rain Jewellery's four showrooms between them carry 18K, 21K, 22K and 24K gold, 925 sterling silver, diamond jewellery, custom and personalised pieces, and 24K gold bars.
How gold jewellery is priced
A gold jewellery price in Dubai has three parts:
- Gold value: the weight in grams multiplied by the day's rate per gram for that karat. Rates move daily with the international gold price.
- Making charge: the cost of the design and workmanship, which varies by how detailed the piece is.
- VAT: 5% UAE VAT on the jewellery.
Ask any shop for the three parts separately. The gold value should be similar everywhere on the same day; the real differences between shops are the making charge and the quality of the work.
What to check before you buy
- The purity stamp on the piece (for example 875 for 21K, 916 for 22K).
- The weight, watched on a calibrated scale, in grams.
- The rate used for that karat that day.
- The invoice, which should state karat, weight, making charge and VAT separately.
- After-sale terms for exchange, resizing and repairs, agreed before you pay.
